TCU Catholic Community Advisory Board
On May 23, 2008, Kevin Prevou, Director of Campus Ministry for the
Diocese of Fort Worth, asked the Catholic campus ministers in the
Diocese of Fort Worth to formulate a 3-year plan of goals and objectives
for their respective campus ministries based on the six aspects of
campus ministry listed in the Catholic Bishops document on campus
ministry,
Empowered by the Spirit: Campus Ministry Faces the Future (hereafter
referred to as Empowered by the Spirit.) These six aspects are: (A)
Forming a Faith Community, (B) Appropriating the Faith, (C) Forming
Christian Conscience, (D) Educating for Justice, (E) Facilitating
Personal Development, (F) Developing Leaders for the Future.
In response to this request, Fr. Charlie asked Catholic faculty, staff
and alums to form an ad hoc Advisory Board to assist him in developing
that plan. Formed in August, 2008, the Advisory Board established as its
mission (1) to review the current campus ministry programming; and (2)
to formulate a 3-year plan for the TCU Catholic Campus Ministry;
Meeting bi-weekly, and at times weekly, the Board studied Empowered by
the Spirit and reviewed the current campus ministry programming from
September, 2008 until February, 2009, after which the Board began to
develop 3-year goals.
As the work progressed, it became clear that the Board should continue
beyond its ad hoc status. So the Board will serve the Catholic Community
in a permanent advisory capacity:
- To study generational and developmental theories to guide its work, and ultimately of the ministry of the Catholic Community (Aspect B: Appropriating the Faith)
- To provide programming, support, renewal and enrichment for Board members in order to equip the Board to carry out the vision of campus ministry set forth in Empowered by the Spirit (Aspect F: Developing Leaders for the Future)
- To establish a long-range (5-10 year) plan to continue the implementation of Empowered by the Spirit (Aspect F: Developing Leaders for the Future)
- To meet in “focus groups” with Catholics not active in the Catholic campus ministry at TCU in order to determine if their spiritual needs are being met (Aspect A: Forming the Faith Community)
The Board completed its 3-year plan on April 1, 2009.
